Dhaka 30 July: To press their nine-point demands, quota reform activists are staging a unique protest today (Tuesday), by taking and sharing photos online with red cloths tied over their faces and eyes.

This initiative is part of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

The announcement of this program was made in a press release sent by the movement’s coordinator, Md. Mahin Sarkar, on Monday night.

The press release states that during the ongoing quota reform movement, numerous students across the country are being killed by the indiscriminate firing of law enforcement agencies, with thousands more injured and struggling for their lives. Despite these dire circumstances, the authorities are refusing to accept the students’ just demands. Instead, they are conducting midnight raids on homes, reminiscent of the invaders of 1971, abducting innocent students, and subjecting them to medieval-style torture in the name of remand.

The daily mockery and brutality faced by the students, without any justice for the state-sponsored genocide and torture, prompted this nationwide protest. Rejecting mourning, the press release urges participants to take photos with red cloths over their faces and eyes and share them online tomorrow (Tuesday) to advocate for the students’ demands.
