Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of the recently resigned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has confirmed to the BBC that his mother will not be returning to politics. Joy expressed that the protests and opposition she faced despite her considerable efforts have left Sheikh Hasina deeply disillusioned.
As the former unpaid Advisor on Information and Communication Technology, Joy conveyed to BBC World Service that Sheikh Hasina had been contemplating resignation since Sunday. Responding to family concerns about her safety, she decided to leave the country.
Joy highlighted the transformation Bangladesh has undergone under his mother’s leadership, pointing out that the country was in a dire state when she assumed power. Despite Bangladesh’s current status as a prominent force in Asia, Joy noted that his mother feels a profound sense of disappointment due to the challenges she encountered.
