In an interview with an Indian newspaper, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed that Jamaat had demanded 30 parliamentary seats. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami strongly protested the remark, stating that if no proof is presented, Fakhrul must apologize to the nation.

On Monday (23 September), in a statement, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Secretary General and former MP, Professor Mia Golam Porwar, said that the comment made by the BNP Secretary General in an interview with Kolkata-based daily Ei Samay was entirely baseless, disrespectful, and vindictive. He said, “It is difficult for us to believe that a veteran politician like Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has made such a statement. If he really has, then he must provide proof of whom Jamaat demanded seats from.”

Golam Porwar further stated that Jamaat operates under its own leadership in a normal manner and has no involvement in the politics of seeking seats from others. He warned, “If he fails to provide proof, then it is his moral obligation to apologize publicly before the people.”

He also alleged that Fakhrul had spoken in a disdainful manner about Jamaat’s politics and organizational dignity, adding that it is for the people to judge. In the statement, he expressed confidence in the people, saying, “Our activities are for the country and the people, and attaining the satisfaction of Almighty Allah is our ultimate goal.”

Jamaat called on Fakhrul to refrain from making such “false and misleading” statements in the future.
