Following the resignation of Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder, Deputy Governor Nurun Nahar has been appointed to serve as Acting Governor. The decision was formalized in an order issued on Sunday, August 11, by Afsana Bilkis, Deputy Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division under the Ministry of Finance.

The order specifies that due to the resignation of Abdur Rouf Talukder, the Deputy Governors of Bangladesh Bank will manage their respective daily operations until a new Governor is appointed. Nurun Nahar has been entrusted with the responsibilities of Acting Governor to ensure the uninterrupted functioning of the central bank.

Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder had earlier submitted his resignation letter to Md. Abdur Rahman Khan, Secretary of the Financial Institutions Division, on Friday, citing personal reasons for his departure. Secretary Abdur Rahman Khan has not publicly commented on the resignation.

It has been reported that since the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, Abdur Rouf Talukder has not attended Bangladesh Bank or resided in the Governor’s official residence.
