The Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs has made five significant decisions, including expediting the prosecution of individuals involved in the killings that occurred during the July-August period, which were aimed at suppressing student and public protests.
These decisions were taken today, Saturday, during a meeting with officials from the Law and Justice Division, chaired by Asif Nazrul, Legal Affairs Advisor to the interim government, during his first visit to the Secretariat following the interim government’s swearing-in last Thursday night.
The additional four decisions are as follows:
- All criminal cases filed between July 1 and August 5 related to the suppression of student and public protests will be withdrawn within the next three working days.
- Immediate steps will be taken to release juveniles detained in juvenile development centers under false and harassing charges within the next three working days.
- There will be swift action to withdraw false and harassing cases filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Cyber Security Act.
- The toll-free national legal aid helpline (number 16430) under the Law and Justice Division will be utilized to provide support for those facing false and harassing charges.
