Student Movement in Bangladesh: A Letter from a Young Man to His Parents

    0

In the quest to make the student movement in Bangladesh a success, many young men sacrificed their lives. Recently, the Bangladesh Centre received a handwritten letter from one such young man, who was later killed by the police. The letter addressed to his parents poignantly reflects his dedication and sacrifice:

    Dear Mother,

I am heading to the demonstration. I could no longer restrain myself. I am sorry, Father. I left the house against your wishes. I couldn’t stay home like a selfish person. Our comrades are taking to the streets, risking their lives for the future generations, and sacrificing their lives in this struggle for liberation. If a disabled youth, a seven-year-old child, or a crippled person can join the fight, why should I stay at home? Death is inevitable. Therefore, rather than dying a coward’s death at home, facing bullets in the struggle and dying as a hero is far superior. The true human is one who sacrifices their life for others. If I do not return, please do not grieve but be proud. I apologize for all my mistakes.
