    Khalid Hossain from Satkania Becomes First Religious Scholar Advisor in Bangladesh’s History

    In a historic ceremony held at Bangabhaban’s Darbar Hall, a 17-member interim government was sworn in yesterday in the presence of the President. Among those sworn in was Dr. Maulana A.F.M. Khalid Hossain, marking the first time a religious scholar has been appointed as an advisor to the government. Khalid Hossain, a distinguished figure from Satkania, Chattogram, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new role.

    Born on February 2, 1959, in Mokkar Bari, Madharsa Union, Satkania, Khalid Hossain’s full name is Abul Fayez Muhammad Khalid Hossain. He comes from a respected Muslim family, with his father, Muhammad Habibullah, being a notable Islamic scholar.

    Khalid Hossain is a prominent Sunni Deobandi scholar who has served as the former Nayeb-e-Ameer of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh. He currently holds several key positions, including education advisor to Islami Andolan Bangladesh, editor of the monthly “At-Tawhid,” assistant editor of “Balagush Sharq,” and guest lecturer in the Department of Qur’anic Sciences and Islamic Studies at the International Islamic University, Chattogram (IIUC).

    His contributions to education are extensive. Khalid Hossain has been a professor and head of the Islamic History Department at Omar Gani MES College in Chattogram, a part-time professor at the Asian University of Bangladesh, and the former central president of Islami Chhatrasamaj, the student wing of the Nezame Islam Party. His scholarly work includes over 200 research articles published in various journals, including the World Muslim League Journal.

    Khalid Hossain began his educational journey at Babunagar Government Primary School in Madharsa Union, Satkania. He continued his studies at Al-Jamiatul Islamiah Patiya from 1969 to 1971 and completed his Alim degree from Satkania Alia Mahmudul Ulum Fazil Madrasa in 1971. He pursued further Islamic studies at Chandanpura Darul Uloom in Chattogram, completing his Kamil examination in 1975.

    His advanced Islamic education includes studying Sahih Bukhari under Muhammad Amin, a disciple of Ashraf Ali Thanvi, and Sahih Muslim under Matiur Rahman Nizami of Mirsarai. He also studied Sunan at-Tirmidhi and Sunan Abu Dawood under renowned scholars. Khalid Hossain earned a BA (Honors) in Islamic History and Culture from the University of Chattogram in 1982, followed by an MA in the same field in 1983. In 2006, he completed his Ph.D. with a focus on “The Sermons of Prophet Muhammad (SAW): A Socio-Cultural Study.”

    The announcement of Khalid Hossain’s appointment as an advisor in the interim government has sparked widespread celebration across Satkania. Residents of Madharsa Union, his birthplace, are particularly proud, with many expressing their admiration for his achievements. Social media has been flooded with congratulatory messages, reflecting the joy and pride felt by his community.

    Local resident Md. Kamal Uddin expressed his excitement, saying, “We are immensely proud that Khalid Hossain, a scholar from our area, has been appointed as an advisor in the interim government. His father was also a revered scholar, and we are confident that Khalid Hossain will bring great wisdom and intellect to his new role.”
