General Waker-uz-Zaman, the Chief of Army Staff, is set to engage in direct discussions with representatives of students and teachers very soon. This announcement was made in a press release by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) department this evening.
The move comes in the wake of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and departure from the country earlier today, following a day of widespread protests and unrest sparked by the ongoing quota reform movement. In response to the escalating situation, General Waker-uz-Zaman has already held meetings with leaders from various political parties, including the BNP, Jatiya Party, and Jamaat-e-Islami. During a speech delivered at 4 PM today, he announced the decision to establish an interim government to manage the country’s affairs during this transitional period.
The ISPR’s press release further details that, later this evening, the Army Chief will meet with student and teacher representatives to discuss the current situation and explore possible resolutions.
