After being held in intelligence custody, six coordinators of the quota reform movement announced the withdrawal of the movement. However, upon release, Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators, declared that the movement will continue.
On Thursday afternoon, these coordinators were returned to their families from DB custody. That evening, Abdullah posted on Facebook.
In his post, Mr. Abdullah wrote, “None of us are free until the last person arrested in this movement is freed. This mass arrest is nothing but mass disdain.”
“Our release will only be complete when the last person arrested in this movement is released. This mass arrest is not just the deprivation of innocent people’s rights but a reflection of cruelty imposed on our entire society.”
He added, “This is a terrible blow to free thought and human rights. Our movement is not just for the release of individuals but against discrimination, oppression, mass arrests, and student abuse. Our movement will continue until the last person arrested in this movement is released.”
Since last Saturday, the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement were held at the intelligence police office on Minto Road.
Following their release on Thursday, Law Minister Anisul Haque stated that the students had sought safety from the government. Today, when they informed that they no longer needed protection, they were allowed to leave without any hindrance.
