Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and left Bangladesh. Reports indicate that she, along with her sister Rehana, has vacated her official residence, Ganabhaban, in Dhaka. They were transported to Agartala Airport by helicopter. The Bangladesh Air Force helicopter was piloted by Air Commodore Abbas, a member of the 101 Squadron. From Agartala, Hasina is expected to travel to Delhi.

An interim caretaker government is being formed under the supervision of the military in Bangladesh. Sources suggest that prior to this, the Bangladesh military gave Prime Minister Hasina a deadline to resign. One source claims she was given 45 minutes to step down. However, other sources indicate that the entire process was coordinated between the military and Delhi. Following these discussions, Hasina tendered her resignation.

According to some Bangladeshi media reports, Hasina wanted to record a farewell speech to the nation before leaving the country. However, she was reportedly denied this opportunity. Sources claim that the military did not permit her to record the speech, although this has not been officially confirmed.

Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman addressed the nation after Hasina had left the country’s airspace. It was announced that power is being temporarily transferred to the Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament. Subsequently, an interim government will be formed to oversee the country until new elections, which are tentatively expected to be held in about a year. However, these plans are still at a very preliminary stage.
