Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar, who was slated to be one of the 16 advisors under the leadership of Nobel Peace Prize-winning economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus in Bangladesh’s interim government, did not attend the scheduled swearing-in ceremony. The ceremony took place at 9 PM on Thursday.

Regarding his absence, Dr. Bidhan Ranjan said, “I was invited, but I did not go to take the oath. I haven’t made a decision yet. I will consult with my close associates and then announce my decision. At this moment, I cannot say more.”

Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar completed his SSC from Sunamganj Government Jubilee High School in 1979 and HSC from Dhaka College in 1981. He later earned his MBBS degree from Sir Salimullah Medical College in 1988.

Professionally, Dr. Bidhan is currently serving as the Director of the National Institute of Mental Health. Prior to this, he was the head of the Department of Psychiatry at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
