Interim Government Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus remarked that during the rule of authoritarian Sheikh Hasina, every institution in the country has been destroyed.
Dr. Yunus made this statement on Tuesday (September 10) during a courtesy meeting with the Netherlands Ambassador to Bangladesh, Irma van Duuren. During the meeting, Dr. Yunus sought the Netherlands’ cooperation in reforming various institutions in Bangladesh.
He said, “The institutions need to be restructured and reformed. The current government is committed to making significant reforms in sectors like education, finance, labor, the Election Commission, the judiciary, civil administration, and the business environment.” He sought the Netherlands’ government’s support for these reforms.
The Dutch ambassador expressed her country’s full support for the interim government and stated that the Netherlands would strengthen relations with Bangladesh in areas such as agriculture, marine industries, industry, youth, the knowledge economy, labor, the environment, and flood management. Dr. Yunus thanked the ambassador and mentioned his long-standing personal relationship with the leadership and prominent figures of the Netherlands.
Regarding the Rohingya crisis, Dr. Yunus emphasized the importance of educating and training the Rohingyas growing up in the camps so that their future does not remain bleak due to a lack of education.
Also present during the meeting were Senior Secretary of SDG Affairs Lamia Morshed, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kazi Russel Parvez, and Dutch Deputy Ambassador Thijs Woudstra.
