    Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has established a private hospital Sylhet Womens Medical and Hospital in Sylhet city that stands as a model of inclusivity and unity. The hospital employs 1,400 staff members, with more than 250 of them belonging to various minority religious communities. This diverse workforce reflects Dr. Rahman’s vision of creating a “mini Bangladesh” within his institution—an environment where people of all faiths coexist, work, and interact harmoniously.

    In an interview with Kalbela, a prominent Bangladeshi newspaper, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman shared his aspirations for the hospital. He emphasized that his goal is to foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding, where every individual, regardless of their religious or cultural background, is treated with equal dignity and opportunity.

    “No one in this hospital is treated differently because of their faith,” Dr. Rahman stated. “We value merit above all else, and those who demonstrate excellence are given the opportunity to work here, regardless of their background. This institution is built on the principles of fairness and inclusivity.”

    In an interview, a senior staff nurse at Sylhet Women’s Medical College shared her positive experience, stating that she has never faced any discrimination or harassment due to her religion. Her testimony reflects the hospital’s inclusive environment, where individuals from different religious backgrounds feel respected and valued.

    The security chief, Projes Das, echoed this sentiment, describing the hospital as a unique example of communal harmony. “Sylhet Women’s Medical College is a place where people from Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, and Muslim backgrounds work side by side like a big family,” he said. This statement underscores the institution’s commitment to fostering a sense of unity and collaboration among its diverse workforce.

    Health Assistant Helen Rani Das also emphasized the harmonious working environment, saying, “We are all working here together and not facing any problems.” Her words further illustrate the inclusive and respectful atmosphere at the hospital, where employees from all faiths coexist peacefully and support one another.
