The new four advisers of the interim government have been sworn in. Four more advisers have joined the interim government. President Md. Shahabuddin administered their oath at 4:11 PM today, Friday, in the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban.
The new advisers were sworn in in the presence of the Interim Government’s Chief Adviser, Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. The new advisers are economist Wahiduddin Mahmud, former Cabinet Secretary Ali Imam Majumder, former Secretary Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, and former Director General of Bangladesh Rifles, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
After taking the oath, each of them signed the oath of office and confidentiality. With this, the number of advisers in the interim government, led by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has now reached 21.
Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain conducted the oath ceremony. Several advisers, the chiefs of the three services, and senior military and civilian officials were present at the event.
After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in the face of student-public movements, an interim government of 17 members was formed on August 8, with Dr. Muhammad Yunus as the Chief Adviser. These new four advisers are joining them. The allocation of offices to the new advisers has not been done yet.
Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus holds the responsibility for 24 ministries and divisions, including the Cabinet Division, the Ministry of Defense, Education, Road Transport and Bridges, Food, Agriculture, Public Administration, and the Ministry of Commerce.
Among other advisers, Salehuddin Ahmed has been given the Ministry of Finance and Planning; Professor Asif Nazrul the Ministry of Law; Adilur Rahman Khan the Ministry of Industry; Hasan Arif the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives; Md. Tawhid Hossain the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Syeda Rizwana Hasan the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change; Sharmin S Murshid the Ministry of Social Welfare; Faruq-e-Azam the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs; Brigadier General (Retd.) M. Sakhawat Hossain the Ministry of Home Affairs; Supradeep Chakma the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs; Bidhan Ranjan Roy the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education; A.F.M. Khalid Hossain the Ministry of Religious Affairs; Farida Akhtar the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock; Nurjahan Begum the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Md. Nahid Islam the Ministry of Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
