Nahid, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement and currently an advisor to the interim government, told Reuters that Sheikh Hasina must be brought to justice upon her return to the country, particularly for the recent killings.

In an interview with Reuters on Friday, August 10, Nahid made these remarks.

He said, “I am curious to know why Sheikh Hasina fled from Bangladesh. We will seek justice for the killings that occurred during Sheikh Hasina’s time. This is one of our main demands. If she does not return, we will take action in this regard.”

Nahid also mentioned, “We want to arrest her.” He added that discussions are ongoing about her trial. Another student leader, Abu Bakar Majumder, said, “We want Sheikh Hasina to return to the country and face trial.”

It is worth noting that a movement regarding the quota system in government jobs began in Bangladesh in mid-June. However, during Sheikh Hasina’s government, the students faced oppression and repression as the government tried to suppress the movement.

On July 17, six students and ordinary people, including Abu Saeed, were killed in Rangpur. After that, the movement turned into an anti-government protest. Faced with massive public protests, on Monday, August 5, Sheikh Hasina was forced to step down from power and flee the country.
