Former Dhaka Metropolitan DB Chief Mohammad Harun Attempted to Flee Through Shahjalal Airport

Former Chief of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) Mohammad Harun Ar Rashid attempted to escape the country via Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. However, he was apprehended before he could board a flight. Earlier, he had attempted to escape by scaling the wall of the Police Headquarters.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon.

According to a source at the Police Headquarters, the number of people in Shahbagh increased after news of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s departure became known. Harun had been with the police chief throughout the day but stopped issuing instructions via wireless communication after learning of Hasina’s departure. Later in the afternoon, Harun tried to flee the Police Headquarters. He scaled the boundary wall of the City Corporation on the eastern side of the Police Headquarters and changed into civilian clothes to blend in with the public.

Another source reported that Harun went directly to Hazrat Shahjalal Airport after leaving the Police Headquarters, where he attempted to escape. However, he was unsuccessful and was detained by military personnel. He is currently being held at an undisclosed location for interrogation.
