Naheed Islam, a key coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, has asserted that individuals with ties to fascism or authoritarianism will be excluded from the interim government. He emphasized that the framework for the interim administration will be developed through discussions with student representatives, civil society members, and political leaders. The interim government will be designed to ensure that no supporters of fascism are included.

The resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the subsequent departure of the Awami League government follow widespread protests led by the student movement. On Monday evening, Naheed Islam and eight other coordinators addressed the public in a televised appearance.

Islam outlined the movement’s intention to overhaul Bangladesh’s political system, aiming to prevent the return of autocratic or fascist regimes.

Asif Mahmud, another coordinator, announced a press conference scheduled for 8 PM at the Karwan Bazar Circus Fountain, where they will detail the structure of the interim government. The interim administration will invite qualified and acceptable individuals to participate.

Mahmud expressed confidence in the movement’s success from the moment their demands were announced, pledging to continue their efforts until all conditions are met. He highlighted the need for the immediate release of all political prisoners detained over the past 16 years and justice for political killings.

The coordinators are committed to establishing a new political framework in Bangladesh, focusing on comprehensive reforms and ensuring fair, democratic elections.

Sargis Alam, another coordinator, credited the widespread participation of the public for the movement’s success. He mentioned that the coordinators had been targeted during clashes in Dhaka Medical College and Chankharpool but survived to continue their work.

Naheed Islam urged the public to safeguard state properties and avoid any acts of vandalism or looting. He called for peaceful demonstrations and protection of state assets until a final resolution is reached, emphasizing the importance of preventing opportunistic destruction or theft.
