Nahid Islam, coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, accused the Awami League of attempting to incite a civil war in the country. “Our purpose, goal, and destination are clear. Victory and only victory is our aim,” he declared.
Nahid emphasized that the movement is allowing the government time to respond. “If the government continues with violence, we are looking towards Ganabhaban. Sheikh Hasina must decide whether to persist in violence and bloodshed or to accept the students’ demands and resign.”
On Sunday, the anti-discrimination student movement organized road blockades and protests from morning until evening in Shahbagh and surrounding areas of the capital. Joining the protest around 3 PM, Nahid Islam made these remarks.
Accusing the ruling party of pushing the country towards a civil war, Nahid Islam stated, “Students and the public are prepared for any moment. Today, we have taken up sticks. If sticks do not suffice, we are ready to take up arms. Resist, stand up, and drive the terrorists out of Bangladesh.
“Our one-point demand has been declared. Now, only the blueprint for the future of Bangladesh remains to be announced. If we are abducted, murdered, or arrested, and there is no one left to declare it, you must continue the movement.”
Issuing a stern warning, Nahid said, “If my brothers are shot, if my sisters are harmed, we will not remain silent. Form resistance committees in neighborhoods, villages, and alleys. Wherever there is an attack, build resistance. We do not recognize this government. From now on, the students and the public will lead the country. The students’ declaration is the final declaration.”
Nahid Islam further stated that the movement will continue until the government falls. “We will ensure the trial of this murderous fascist government on the soil of Bengal. Once again, mobile internet has been shut down. Broadband internet may also be cut off. Such conspiracies will not work this time. Even if the internet is shut down, we will remain on the streets.”
In the ongoing movement for the government’s resignation, the anti-discrimination student movement has announced a ‘March to Dhaka’ program for tomorrow, Monday.
