The High Court has dismissed a petition seeking an order to prohibit direct shooting at protesting students.
On Sunday, the bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Masud Hossain issued this order after the hearing.
If someone breaks the law, the police or law enforcement agencies may use rubber bullets, tear gas shells, and eventually lethal bullets. However, today, Sunday, a High Court bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice S.M. Masud Hossain Dolon dismissed the writ petition that demanded a halt to the use of lethal bullets and the release of the six coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement who were allegedly detained. The decision was made after several observations were noted.
Earlier, the hearing on this matter, which was listed as item 10 on the court’s agenda, began at 11 AM. Attorney General A M Amin Uddin represented the state at the outset of the hearing. The hearing was initially scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, but it was postponed due to Justice Masud Hossain’s illness.
