Students at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) are mass resigning from the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) politics through Facebook posts. It has been reported that students from various faculties, halls, and years, who were involved in the university’s BCL chapter, are sharing posts on their personal Facebook profiles to announce their resignation from BCL politics. Additionally, they have expressed their determination not to be involved with any other political parties in the future. About a hundred students have announced their resignation from the BAU chapter of BCL.

According to various university sources, the students are resigning from their BCL affiliations out of conscience and self-reflection, considering the interest of the country and its people, the current state of governance, and the attacks on mothers, sisters, and brothers.

One student from the Veterinary Faculty and Fazlul Haque Hall wrote in their resignation post, “I grew up embracing the spirit of the language movement, the six-point movement, the mass uprising, and the liberation war. I have grown up feeling the pain of sacrificing lives for justice. The student politics I envisioned and desired was solely for the rights of the students. I am deeply ashamed of the current events. I have always stood for truth and justice and will continue to do so. From this moment on, with a clear and conscious mind, I am resigning from the Fazlul Haque Hall unit of the BAU BCL.”

Another student from Shaheed Shamsul Haque Hall wrote, “I am an ordinary activist of the BAU BCL. It is a greater honor and pride to identify myself as a regular student rather than with this label. During my time in student politics, I received the genuine love of seniors, the respect of juniors, and the support of friends, which will remain unforgettable memories. Considering the current state of the country, the attacks on our people, and out of a sense of conscience and self-reflection, I am resigning from my identity as a BCL activist. Throughout my political career, I have always tried to act with utmost transparency and have never been involved in any wrongdoing. The current ‘Bangladesh Chhatra League’ has lost its heritage and become tainted by the attacks on ordinary students.”

These students are sharing their resignation announcements on Facebook, expressing their regret over the current state of affairs and their desire to support people outside the realm of student politics.
