Protesters Overcome Police Obstruction in Chittagong to Enter Court Premises

As part of the nationwide ‘March for Justice’ program declared by the anti-discrimination student movement, students in Chittagong protested against killings, mass arrests, attacks, cases, and disappearances. Despite police resistance, the protesting students managed to enter the court premises, joined by BNP-affiliated lawyers. By noon, despite the rain, the protesters were stationed in the court premises. At this time, Awami League-affiliated lawyers attempted to block them in front of the Annex building.

On-site observations revealed a heavy presence of police, BGB, and other law enforcement members at all gates of the court building since the morning. No vehicles were allowed into the court area, and even litigants had to walk.

Around 10:30 AM, students began gathering in front of the gate adjacent to Jahur Hawkers Market. A significant number of police were deployed at the gate. The students started their protest beside the gate in the district council premises, causing the road in that area to be blocked.

At noon, the students marched through the gate near the Bangladesh Bank, overcoming police barriers to enter the court premises. The students and BNP-affiliated lawyers gathered in front of Sonali Bank in the court building. Awami League-affiliated lawyers tried to prevent them from going upstairs, leading to minor scuffles but no major clashes.
