Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Nobel laureate economist, has been appointed the interim government’s head. The decision was made during a meeting between the representatives of the anti-discrimination student movement and the chiefs of the three armed forces with President Md. Sahabuddin.

President’s Press Secretary Zainal Abedin confirmed this information to Prothom Alo after the meeting concluded on Tuesday night. He said that the decision was made during a meeting between the President, the chiefs of the three armed forces, and representatives of the anti-discrimination student movement.

Prior to this, a meeting was held to discuss the framework of the interim government between the President and the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement. Around 6 PM, a 13-member delegation of the anti-discrimination student movement entered Bangabhaban to meet with the President. About an hour and a half later, at 7:30 PM, the chiefs of the three armed forces entered Bangabhaban. Half an hour later, former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and former Member of Parliament A.K. Azad arrived at Bangabhaban.

At that time, A.K. Azad told reporters in front of Bangabhaban that there were incidents of vandalism and arson happening in various places, and the police were unable to act. He emphasized that without ensuring security, it would be impossible to keep factories operational, and the police were not able to provide security for the factories. He stressed the importance of providing security to businessmen to keep the country’s economy running.

The representatives of the anti-discrimination student movement left Bangabhaban around 11 PM after the meeting concluded. The coordinators exited in a military vehicle, with military jeeps seen in front and behind the vehicle.
