In reaction to recent attacks on police stations and the killing of their colleagues, the Lower Rank staff organization of the police has declared an indefinite strike. On Tuesday, August 6, members demonstrated at the Rajarbagh Police Lines in Dhaka, chanting slogans. Their main demands include preventing political misuse of the police force and ensuring senior officials adhere to ethical standards.

The Lower Rank staff organization criticized certain senior officers in a statement sent to the media, accusing them of damaging the police’s reputation through political partisanship.

Following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation on August 5, there have been extensive assaults on police personnel and facilities nationwide. These attacks have resulted in numerous police fatalities, as well as the arson, vandalism, and looting of 450 police stations and 70 other police sites. To safeguard their members, the subordinate staff organization has announced an indefinite strike starting Tuesday.
