Protests across Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh have turned violent, with clashes between protesters and Awami League supporters resulting in 17 deaths. The violence has spread to various areas, including Shahbagh, Science Lab, Aftabnagar, and National Press Club, as well as several districts.

Shahbagh
On Sunday morning, protesters gathered at Shahbagh as part of a nationwide non-cooperation strike led by the anti-inequality student movement. The situation escalated when Awami League leaders and activists clashed with protesters. By late morning, protesters and Awami League supporters were engaged in violent exchanges, with damage reported to vehicles and property. Awami League members inside the hospital premises were seen throwing bricks, and a fire broke out under the Paribag Overbridge.

TSC (Dhaka University)
At Dhaka University’s TSC area, protesters continued their demonstrations, chanting slogans throughout the morning.

Science Lab
In the Science Lab area, clashes occurred between Awami League activists and quota reform protesters. A procession of Awami League members advanced towards Science Lab and clashed with the protesters, who retaliated. The confrontation resulted in a brief retreat by Awami League supporters.

National Press Club
The National Press Club was the site of significant protests demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Various professional groups, including the Bangladesh Combined Professionals Council (BCPC) and Anti-Genocide and Oppression Lawyers, participated in the demonstrations.

Aftabnagar
In Aftabnagar, protesters gathered in front of East West University from around 10:30 AM. The crowd grew as the morning progressed, with students from nearby institutions joining the protests.

Munshiganj
In Munshiganj, violent clashes between quota reform protesters and Awami League supporters resulted in three deaths. The violence, which occurred between 9:45 AM and 11:45 AM, left more than 50 injured. Two of the deceased were confirmed to have died from gunshot wounds.

Magura
In Magura, a clash between police and BNP supporters led to the death of district Chhatra Dal Joint Secretary Mehedi Hasan Rabbi. The conflict, which occurred around 11 AM, also injured three police officers and ten others.

Rangpur
In Rangpur, clashes between student protesters and Awami League members resulted in four deaths and ten injuries.

Bogra
In Bogura, three people were reported dead in clashes related to the non-cooperation strike. Protesters blocked major roads and set fire to various locations. One of the deceased was Monirul Islam, who died from a gunshot wound.

Pabna
In Pabna, three people were killed when shots were fired from an Awami League and Jubo League procession. The protesters then burned the vehicle of an Awami League leader.

Lakshmipur
In Lakshmipur, five people were injured by gunfire, and 50 others sustained injuries during clashes.

Barisal
One person was reported dead in Barisal.

Joypurhat
One person was killed in Joypurhat.

Comilla
One person died in Comilla during the clashes.

Rangpur Arson
In Rangpur’s Badarganj, the homes of local Awami League MP Abul Kalam Md. Ahsanul Haque Chowdhury (Duke) and Mayor Ahsanul Haque Chowdhury (Tutul) were set on fire around noon. Prior to the arson, Awami League and Jubo League members had attacked and chased protesters.

The violence follows the anti-inequality student movement’s call for a nationwide indefinite non-cooperation strike, demanding the resignation of the government. The movement’s coordinators, Asif Mahmud and Nahid Islam, outlined the strike’s objectives during a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar.
