In Dhaka’s Dhanmondi 27 area, a tense confrontation occurred today as Awami League leaders and activists chased down protesters, with reports of gunshots fired. The incident took place around 11:30 AM on Sunday.

Protesters had assembled near the Rapa Plaza building around 11 AM, while Awami League leaders and activists positioned themselves on a nearby road towards Asad Gate.

The situation escalated suddenly around 11:30 AM when protesters began fleeing. Awami League members pursued them, firing guns and causing chaos. One observer reported seeing a pistol in the hands of an Awami League member.

At one point, Awami League activists searched nearby buildings for protesters. As they continued their pursuit, the protesters moved towards the middle of Dhanmondi 27, where Awami League members were also seen congregating in front of Bangladesh Eye Hospital.

The confrontation occurred as Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) held a human chain in front of the Midas Center on Dhanmondi 27. Journalists from various media outlets, including Prothom Alo, were preparing to send their reports when Awami League leaders and activists threatened them.

The violent clash underscores the escalating tensions in the area, highlighting the volatility of the current political climate.
