Interim government’s Chief Advisor, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has stated that, broadly speaking, the timeline for the next elections can be set between late 2025 and the first half of 2026.

In a national address delivered today, Monday (December 16), on the occasion of the first Victory Day following the student-popular uprising, Dr. Yunus made this remark. The address was broadcast at 10 a.m. on Bangladesh Television (BTV) and BTV World.

In his speech, Dr. Yunus said, *”I have repeatedly appealed to you to undertake and complete all major reforms before holding the elections. However, if political consensus necessitates that we—again, I emphasize, *if—carry out only a few critical reforms to ensure an accurate voter list as the basis for the elections, it may be possible to hold elections by late 2025. If, however, we incorporate the expected level of reforms based on recommendations from the Election Process and Reform Commission and reach a national consensus, it would require at least an additional six months. Broadly speaking, we can estimate the election timeline to fall between late 2025 and the first half of 2026.”
