Since the arrest of Bangladeshi Hindu monk Chinmoy Krishna Das, a confrontational tone has been noticeable in certain sections of India’s mainstream media. Reports are being published without proper verification of facts, reflecting a lack of journalistic integrity.

Fake news about Bangladesh is also circulating on social media, which is then picked up by various Indian newspapers and TV channels.

Several media analysts point out that opposition toward Bangladesh in Indian media became evident after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government. However, this opposition has reached its peak following Chinmoy Krishna Das’s arrest.

Protests in India against his arrest often feature alarming claims such as, “Thousands of Hindus are being killed in Bangladesh, and Hindu women are being raped.”

Analysts argue that the narrative being built in India—through political speeches, media reports, and social media—is influencing many ordinary people across religious lines, making them believe in these unverified claims.
