“Advisor Mahfuz Alam of the interim government commented that India should unequivocally recognize the July coup in Bangladesh and the struggle of students and the masses for democracy in the country. He also stated, ‘India has tried to portray the July coup as the takeover of power by extremists, anti-Hindu, and Islamist forces.’”
In a post on his verified Facebook page today, Wednesday, Mahfuz Alam made these remarks. The post, originally written in English, has been translated for readers as follows:
On India and its relationship with Bangladesh
India should unequivocally recognize the July coup in Bangladesh and the struggle of students and the masses for democracy in this country. This must be the starting point for a new relationship. Ignoring the July coup while attempting to lay the foundation for a new Bangladesh will harm the relations between the two countries.
In this Bangladesh, Indophiles (India lovers) or India’s allies think that everything will normalize and that ignoring the July coup and the atrocities of the ousted fascist Sheikh Hasina will not affect them. This is a misconception. The people are observing everything!
Indian authorities have tried to portray the July coup as something like the takeover of power by extremists, anti-Hindu, and Islamist forces. But their propaganda and provocations are failing.
For the first time in nearly two decades, the people of Bangladesh are enjoying democratic rights without any doubt! Truth has been revealed… and falsehood will be eradicated. Forever!
India must acknowledge the changed narrative after 1975 and accept the reality of a new Bangladesh. This is not the post-1975 scenario. The July coup was a democratic, generational, and responsible struggle, and this struggle will continue for a long time.
The people of Bangladesh are not the same as before; they are now united and proud. They will fight for their dignity until their last breath.
Delhi or Dhaka—Dhaka, Dhaka!
Homeland or Martyrdom!
These slogans are echoing in every corner of the country to unite Bangladesh as a single entity. India should not turn this united, dignified, and democratic Bangladesh into its adversary.
We failed as a state after 1971, but this time, we will not!
In Allah we trust!
