In protest against the attack on Bangladesh’s Deputy High Commission in Agartala, India, Dhaka University (DU) erupted in demonstrations.
On Monday (December 2), around 9:15 PM, students gathered at the base of the Raju Memorial Sculpture and began a protest march. Students from various halls joined the procession, which later returned to the Raju Sculpture after passing through the Vice-Chancellor’s area and concluded with a rally.
During the protest, students chanted slogans such as:
“Freedom, not servitude; freedom, freedom!”
“Struggle, not compromise; struggle, struggle!”
“Delhi or Dhaka; Dhaka, Dhaka!”
“Resist Indian aggression, people unite!”
“Why attack the High Commission in Agartala? Delhi, answer us!”
“Not servility, but the streets; the streets, the streets!”
“Stop chanting India’s name, or your back will bear the scars!”
In the rally, students expressed that while Bangladesh maintains diplomatic ties with India and seeks good relations as neighbors, the relationship must not devolve into one of ruler and subject. They demanded India issue a formal apology for the attack on the Bangladeshi High Commission in India.
The students warned India, stating that Bangladesh is no longer under the rule of the Awami League. Therefore, India should refrain from attempting to dominate the country as it did during the Awami League’s tenure. They vowed to resist any aggression from Delhi, just as they forced Hasina to flee.
One student said, “After 16 years, Bangladesh has stood up against Delhi’s dominance, looking it in the eye. This has unsettled Delhi to the core.”
They claimed such incidents violate diplomatic norms and insult Bangladesh’s sovereignty.
