The Assistant High Commission office of Bangladesh in Agartala was vandalized, and the national flag was torn down and set on fire in protest against the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das, spokesperson for the Bangladesh United Sanatani Awakening Alliance.

This incident occurred on Monday afternoon.

Video footage from the time shows protesters pulling down Bangladesh’s national flag and setting it on fire.

Amitabh Bhattacharya, a correspondent from Kolkata for the BBC, reported that a group called Hindu Sangharsh Samiti held a gathering in front of the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala to protest Chinmoy Krishna Das’s arrest.

After the meeting, a six-member delegation of the organization went inside the High Commission office to submit a memorandum. During this time, some Hindu youths from outside suddenly entered the premises, tore down Bangladesh’s national flag, and vandalized signboards. They also set parts of the office on fire.

BK Roy, an executive member of Hindu Sangharsh Samiti, claimed that they were unaware of the events outside while submitting the memorandum. He stated that when they returned, they did not see anyone inside the office.

Senior officials from Tripura Police visited the site after the incident, inspected the High Commission office, and spoke with the staff. However, Indian law enforcement officials present at the scene refrained from commenting to journalists.

Similar protests occurred in India’s Cooch Behar, where the Sanatani Hindu Mancha burned an effigy of Professor Muhammad Yunus, head of Bangladesh’s interim government. The group also organized a protest march near the Bangladesh border in Changrabandha under tight security.

Additionally, demonstrations were held at the Petrapole border, led by Suvendu Adhikari, a leader of the opposition in West Bengal. At the rally, accusations were made regarding the persecution of minorities in Bangladesh, and it was warned that long-term blockades might be imposed along the border if such incidents continued.
