Regarding women’s employment opportunities, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, Shafiqur Rahman, stated, “Who are we to restrict them?”

He made this remark while speaking as the chief guest at the district Jamaat workers’ conference held at the Satkhira Government High School grounds on Saturday, November 30, 2024.

Addressing misconceptions, the Jamaat leader mentioned that a false narrative is often propagated, claiming that Jamaat-e-Islami, if in power, would prevent women from stepping out of their homes. Responding to this, he emphasized that their goal is to ensure a society where women are safe at home, in the workplace, and in public spaces. Women, he said, would contribute to the nation’s development with dignity and respect.

He cited the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who engaged women in the most perilous tasks, including warfare. Narrating the story of Nusayba (RA), a female companion who defended the Prophet in battle, he highlighted her immense bravery, saying she sustained 37 arrows and 70 severe wounds while protecting him.

“If the Prophet himself created opportunities for women in such challenging fields, who are we to restrict them?” he remarked.

Addressing accusations that Jamaat would force women to stay at home or impose dress codes like burqas, he clarified that they would not impose any such restrictions. Instead, in an Islamic society, women would willingly adopt attire that reflects their honor and dignity. He assured that non-Muslims would not face any coercion regarding Islamic practices, such as dress codes, as they are not bound by Islamic prescriptions.

Shafiqur Rahman also emphasized communal harmony, envisioning a country where mosques, temples, and churches coexist peacefully without needing protection. He urged vigilance against those who seek to disrupt societal harmony.

The leader criticized the lack of development in Satkhira, pointing out the poor condition of its roads and accusing the ruling government of neglecting the region.

The event was chaired by Satkhira Jamaat leader Shahidul Islam, with speeches by other central and local Jamaat leaders.
