BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused the remnants of a fallen dictatorship of orchestrating new conspiracies from across the border. He referred to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s stay in India after the student uprising of August 5 as a backdrop to his claims.

Speaking as the chief guest at the Thakurgaon Chhatra Parishad Student Convention-2024, held at Khamarbari Krishibid Institute in Dhaka on Friday (November 29), Mirza Fakhrul urged vigilance against these conspiracies, emphasizing that hard-earned achievements must not be lost.

“Stay Vigilant Against Conspiracies”
Mirza Fakhrul cautioned that the fallen dictatorship is attempting to manipulate global perceptions by instigating incidents to portray Bangladesh as a haven for fundamentalism or a nation plagued by the persecution of minorities. He criticized certain Indian media outlets and social platforms for promoting such narratives.

“Our struggle is far from over,” he said. “The sword still hangs over us. They want to drag us back into darkness. We must remain cautious and united to prevent any chaos or disruptions.”

He expressed disappointment over violence in educational institutions, citing recent clashes at Suhrawardy-Molla College. “This bloodshed is unacceptable. It is part of a larger conspiracy that we must resist.”

The Role of Students in Liberation
Addressing students, Mirza Fakhrul praised their pivotal role in securing freedom for the country. “The extraordinary sacrifices you made in our history, saving the nation from the clutches of monsters, are unparalleled. However, we are still at the threshold of liberation, with much more to achieve.”

He stressed the importance of remembering all contributors to the movement, including laborers and rickshaw pullers who lost their lives. Recalling a visit to Pangu Hospital, he noted that nearly 40% of the injured were laborers, underlining the need to acknowledge their sacrifices.

A Lifetime of Struggle
Reflecting on his personal journey, Mirza Fakhrul expressed relief that Begum Khaleda Zia, despite her health challenges, witnessed the movement’s successes. “We are at the twilight of our lives, and it was my hope to see our country freed from the grip of tyranny. Alhamdulillah, she has seen this moment.”

His speech resonated as a call for unity, vigilance, and continued commitment to the cause, urging everyone to protect the nation’s hard-earned progress from being undone.
