The Sanatani Jagaran Mancha has threatened to march towards the prison if Chinmoy Kumar Das, who was arrested on charges of sedition, is not released. This announcement was made during a press conference held at the Dhakeshwari National Temple in the capital. Representatives of the Bangladesh Sanmilito Sanatani Jagaran Jot addressed the press conference on Tuesday evening, November 26, 2024.

During the event, the leaders described their movement as peaceful and accused certain miscreants of infiltrating the protests to undermine its credibility.

Suman Roy, a representative of the platform, stated, “Our movement has never been violent. Last night (Monday) at Shahbagh, a group of miscreants infiltrated our demonstration and tried to divert its course. They aim to discredit our peaceful movement.” He also claimed that a Hindu lawyer in Chattogram was attacked due to mistaken identity, and other Hindu lawyers in the region are now at risk.

The spokesperson of the platform announced that if Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari is not granted bail by Wednesday, they would march towards the prison where he is being held. The leaders also stated that the Sanatani supporters would voluntarily surrender to the authorities.

The platform further alleged that Chinmoy Krishna Das was falsely arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police. The press conference was organized in protest of his arrest and the attacks on their peaceful assembly.

Prosenjit Kumar Haldar, a representative of the platform, read out a written statement saying that after learning about Chinmoy Krishna Das’s arrest, supporters went to the Detective Branch (DB) office at Minto Road to inquire about the matter but failed to obtain accurate information. Subsequently, they held a peaceful protest at Shahbagh with police permission on Monday evening. However, some extremists attacked the protesters with local weapons and rods, injuring around 30 supporters, three of whom are in critical condition. Two female supporters were reportedly assaulted during the attack.

The statement further mentioned that the police, despite being present at the scene, took no action to prevent the attack. The Sanatani Jagaran Mancha demanded exemplary punishment for the attackers and urged the authorities to ensure their constitutional right to hold peaceful protests.

After the magistrate’s court rejected Chinmoy Krishna Das’s bail plea, an appeal has been filed in the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court, where the hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.

Present at the press conference were Professor Kushal Baran Chakraborty, Palash Kanti De, Tanmoy Moulik, and other representatives.
