Advisor Mahfuz Alam has remarked that certain leaders or individuals with leftist and rightist ideologies have become frenzied due to their failure to secure participation in the government following uprisings. He stated that their recklessness, revolutionary zeal, and provocative actions are creating instability across the nation.

In light of recent attempts to incite chaos in various parts of Dhaka and clashes among college students, Mahfuz Alam, who transitioned from leading anti-discrimination student movements to serving on the government advisory council, made these comments in a Facebook post on Monday.

In a post titled “Mass Uprisings and Anti-Youth Forces”, Mahfuz Alam reflected on the country’s historical context, stating:
“The first ten to fifteen years after the Liberation War were marked by a history of freedom fighters killing one another. Those who did not want Bangladesh to stand on a solid foundation pitted freedom fighters against each other. While they were not free of faults, the continuous killings of our freedom fighters set the country back significantly. History will one day reveal the truth.”

He emphasized that the current movement was a people’s movement led by courageous students and youth. However, over the past three months, a political party and opportunistic domestic and foreign establishments have vilified the students, sown division among them through various student organizations, and instigated another group of young people against them. He added,
“Rather than engaging with the students respectfully, they treated them as enemies.”

Raising questions about the consequences of these actions, Mahfuz Alam stated:
“It must be remembered that no foreign power can subjugate the people of this country. However, some traitors with a servile mentality and reckless individuals have shown their strength in the past three months. Forcing students into confrontations and creating legitimacy crises through killings only benefits those involved in this provocation and administrative failures. Slowly but surely, the truth will come out—or you will see it with open eyes.”

Acknowledging the role of certain allies acting recklessly, Mahfuz Alam said:
“We accept our failures. We have learned from them and are working to overcome them. We will continue striving to move forward collectively. But recklessness and attempts to undermine the students will harm the nation significantly.”

He further affirmed:
“Recklessness, provocation, creating divisions among youth, and attempts to turn the power of uprisings into a reactionary force will all be thwarted, Inshallah.”

Referring to the collective unity seen on the morning of August 5, Mahfuz Alam called for advancing toward a united front, stating:
“This organizationally built unity will create opportunities for long-term freedom, Inshallah.”
