After overcoming many obstacles, Mahmudur Rahman has finally received the official declaration today (Tuesday, October 8, 2024) as the respected editor and publisher of Amar Desh newspaper. The declaration was formally issued by the office of the Additional District Magistrate of Dhaka.
For the past one and a half months, SB Chief Shah Alam, appointed by the fascist regime, had been delaying the issuance of the declaration with various excuses. His argument was that Mahmudur Rahman had a criminal record due to lawsuits and convictions, placing him on a ‘criminal’ list. Based on this, Shah Alam had refused to provide the declaration, despite instructions from both the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Law. However, with Allah’s grace, Mahmudur Rahman has finally achieved the recognition he deserved, having earlier obtained permission as a printer of the press.
In 2008, Mahmudur Rahman purchased Amar Desh Publications Limited, and the then-publisher Alhaj Hasmat Ali transferred the newspaper’s ownership to him. Since that time, under the directives of the fascist government, the Special Branch (SB) had withheld the declaration, forcing Mahmudur Rahman to serve as the acting editor.
From today, following the receipt of the declaration, Mahmudur Rahman will officially serve as the editor and publisher of ‘Amar Desh.’
However, the newspaper’s press remains in police custody. It is hoped that it will soon be released. In a recent discussion at the National Press Club, Mahmudur Rahman mentioned that once the press is returned, repairs will be completed, the office will be set up, and the newspaper will be relaunched as soon as possible.
He called upon all readers and well-wishers to support the swift completion of the preparations for the re-launch of Amar Desh.
