A case of treason has been filed against three former chief election commissioners and all members of three parliaments. In Chittagong, a freedom fighter, Ekramul Karim, has filed this case in the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam, naming former Chief Election Commissioners Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, KM Nurul Huda, Kazi Habibul Awal, and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, along with parliament members who won in three national elections, alleging fraud and treason.
The plaintiff’s lawyer, Kafil Uddin, stated that the court has directed the police to investigate the case. The complaint alleges that many popular leaders were absent from the national elections of 2014, 2018, and 2024, and the general public could not exercise their voting rights. Due to the commission’s failure, the administration and law enforcement agencies acted biasedly. It is also alleged that despite the large costs of these elections, the constitution was violated.
The case further states that under the direction and instigation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the other accused declared some unelected individuals as parliament members through a one-sided election. As a result, the democratic system of the country has been disrupted and the influence of authoritarian rule has increased. It is also alleged that parliament members and ministers have harmed the economy by siphoning off the country’s resources abroad.
Ekramul Haque claims that all salaries and allowances of the elected parliament members obtained through fraud should be returned to the state.
