Chinese troops have reportedly advanced 60 kilometers into Indian territory, according to residents of Arunachal Pradesh. Locals claim that they have spotted a Chinese military camp in the Anjaw district of the state.

This news was reported by the Indian media outlet Anandabazar Patrika on Saturday, September 7.

The report mentions that locals have discovered a Chinese military camp in the Kappapu area of Anjaw district.

An India Today report also claims that Chinese soldiers have been stationed in the region for about a week. Even Indian Army porters have confirmed this information.

The Chinese camp is located near the Hadigra Pass, approximately 60 kilometers from the McMahon Line.

It’s worth noting that two Indian brothers went missing from the Chaglagam area of Anjaw district two years ago. They were residents of a village near the Line of Actual Control and disappeared while searching for medicinal plants near the China border.

Locals have claimed that they were captured by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China. Despite multiple requests for information from the Indian Army, no progress was made regarding the missing individuals.

At the time, Anjaw’s Member of the Legislative Assembly and Minister for Women and Child Development, Dasanglu Pul, told a news agency, “China has not directly admitted whether they have the two youths in custody. However, I have been told that both are alive.”

No state ministers have yet commented on the recent Chinese intrusion in Anjaw.

Apart from the two brothers, several other people have gone missing from the India-China border in the past. In September 2020, five youths from the Subansiri district disappeared. After a week in PLA custody, they were released. In 2022, a teenager was held captive by Chinese soldiers for nine days.

Multiple instances of Chinese intrusion into Indian territory have been reported in the past. In 2019, China built a temporary wooden bridge over the Doyimru Nala near Amako Camp along the China-Arunachal border. In 2020, the Chinese army had also entered the Dibang district.
