The government has decided to send three Additional Inspectors General (Additional IGP) and one Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police into compulsory retirement. This decision was announced today, Monday, through separate notifications signed by Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen, Senior Secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The officers who have been sent into compulsory retirement are:

  • Khandaker Lutful Kabir, Additional Inspector General, Police Headquarters
  • Mir Rezaul Alam, Additional Inspector General, Tourist Police
  • Chowdhury Manzurul Kabir, Additional Inspector General, Noakhali Police Training Center
  • Imam Hossain, Deputy Inspector General (acting), Criminal Investigation Department (CID)

The notification stated that these officers have been retired in the public interest under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018 (Act No. 57), and they will receive retirement benefits according to regulations.

Since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 and the subsequent student-public protests, several senior police officers have been sent into compulsory retirement. Notable among them are:

  • August 27: Additional Inspector General Krishna Pada Roy, KMP Commissioner Md. Mozammel Haque, Additional Commissioner Sardar Rakibul Islam.
  • August 22: Additional Inspector General Mohammad Ali Mia, Additional Inspector General of Industrial Police Md. Mahbubur Rahman, DIG of Police Headquarters Jaydev Kumar Bhadra. (Mohammad Ali Mia was attached to Police Headquarters from CID on August 13)
  • August 21: Additional Inspector General Md. Atikul Islam, Deputy Inspector General Md. Anwar Hossain, Additional Commissioner of DMP Md. Asaduzzaman.
  • August 13: Additional Inspector General Monirul Islam (Special Branch) and Habibur Rahman (DMP Commissioner).

Additionally, following the death of Begum Rokeya University student Abu Saeed due to police firing during the quota reform movement in government jobs, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Moniruzzaman and DIG of Rangpur Range Md. Abdul Baten were also sent into compulsory retirement. This order was issued in two separate notifications by the Ministry of Home Affairs on August 13.
