Nearly three weeks after assuming the role of Chief Adviser to the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus has begun consulting with leaders of various political parties and alliances. During a meeting on Saturday (August 31) at the Chief Adviser’s residence, Jamuna, seven Islamist parties presented several reform proposals, among which a key demand was that no one should serve as Prime Minister more than twice.

Following the meeting, Maulana Mamunul Haque, Secretary General of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, informed journalists that they had called for a complete overhaul of the electoral system. They also demanded that the constitution restore faith and trust in Allah and ensure that no anti-Islamic laws are enacted. He further stated, “We have demanded that no one should be Prime Minister more than twice.”

Mamunul Haque also emphasized the need to investigate all killings during the anti-discrimination student movement, potentially through a tribunal, and called for swift justice without delay. Additionally, he demanded that all cases against Hefazat leaders and activists be withdrawn within a month.

Regarding the Chief Adviser’s call for cooperation in the upcoming elections, Mamunul Haque said, “We have responded positively to the call for cooperation. We have demanded that necessary reforms be implemented before the election and that there be no delay. However, we have not set any specific deadline for these reforms from our side.”

The consultation, which began at 3 p.m., included representatives from Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Khelafat Majlish, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish, Hefazat-e-Islam, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Khelafat Andolan, and Nezam-e-Islam. The meeting continued until 8 p.m., with the Chief Adviser holding separate discussions with various parties and alliances.
