Dr Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, has claimed that the Awami League conspired to discredit the student and public movement by blaming Jamaat. Referring to the Awami League as “fascist,” he stated that Jamaat did not fall into that trap.

Shafiqur Rahman made these remarks at a gathering held yesterday afternoon at the Engineers’ Institution Auditorium in Ramna, Dhaka. The event was organized by the Combined Professional Council, Dhaka Metropolitan North Branch.

During the gathering, Shafiqur Rahman said, “The Awami fascists tried to discredit the student and public movement by placing the blame on Jamaat. But we did not fall into their fabricated trap. We regained our rights in just 26 days by breaking through all the webs of conspiracy.”

Recalling the sacrifices of the students and the public in the movement, the Jamaat Ameer stated, “In the recent successful movement, hundreds of people lost their lives. Thousands were injured, and many were left blind. These brave fighters are our trust. Therefore, in any situation, we must stand by them collectively.”

Mentioning that the interim government has inherited a devastated country from the Awami League, Shafiqur Rahman said the government needs a reasonable amount of time for necessary reforms and corrections. He emphasized that the people of the country demand justice. Without establishing justice, independence will never become meaningful, nor will the benefits of independence be realized.

The Jamaat Ameer also claimed that hundreds of leaders were killed in an attempt to destroy Jamaat. He added that other opposition parties faced severe repression as well. He alleged that the constitutional institutions of the state have been systematically destroyed. However, the “oppressors and fascists” could not maintain their hold on power and were forced to step down in the face of pressure from the students and the public.
