In a recent statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced that a total of 626 individuals, including political figures, police personnel, and civilians, sought refuge in various military cantonments across the country due to threats to their lives following a political shift on August 5th. The ISPR reported that the widespread deterioration of law and order prompted these individuals to seek protection. The military provided shelter to 24 political figures, 5 judges, 19 civilian administrative officers, 28 police officers, 487 police personnel of various ranks, and 12 other officials from public universities and other sectors, along with 51 family members, including women and children.

Of those who took refuge, 615 have since voluntarily left the cantonments as the situation improved. However, four individuals have been handed over to law enforcement authorities in accordance with legal procedures based on allegations or cases against them. Currently, seven individuals, including three people and their four family members, remain in military custody. The military has communicated all relevant information to the concerned ministries.

The ISPR emphasized that the Bangladesh Army is committed to maintaining law and order, preventing extrajudicial activities, and upholding the rule of law with neutrality and professionalism. The public is urged to remain patient and cooperative, avoiding any reliance on rumors, and to respect the country’s laws. The ISPR also reiterated that the Bangladesh Army will continue to stand by the people.
