Leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held a meeting with the Chief Advisor of the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
The meeting took place on Monday afternoon, August 12, at the state guesthouse Jamuna. An 11-member delegation, led by Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, participated in the discussion with the Chief Advisor.
During the meeting, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman addressed the ongoing situation in the country, urging the government to take effective steps to control the widespread violence and law and order issues. He called for the withdrawal of all politically motivated cases filed during the previous government’s tenure and demanded justice for those responsible for the violence against anti-discrimination student protesters. Dr. Rahman also stressed the need to remove corrupt officials who supported the previous regime’s misconduct from key positions in the police and judiciary and replace them with honest, skilled professionals. He further requested the publication of a white paper on the corruption of the previous administration and the prosecution of all involved, including ministers, MPs, and government officials. Additionally, Dr. Rahman called for the immediate promotion of those denied advancement during the previous government and the reinstatement or contractual rehiring of those who were forced into early retirement.
Dr. Rahman also highlighted the need for the honorable rehabilitation of the 57 Bangladeshis arrested in the United Arab Emirates for protesting in support of the quota reform movement. He called for initiatives to boost remittances, revive the economy, and recover funds that were illicitly transferred abroad.
Dr. Rahman noted that Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, had been actively working to prevent any groups from exploiting the current crisis to incite violence against religious minorities. With the interim government now in place and administrative activities underway, he emphasized that ensuring the safety of these communities is the government’s responsibility, and therefore, Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir would withdraw their security efforts.
He reaffirmed that Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir would continue to fully cooperate with the administration in maintaining peace, order, and the security of lives and property in the country.
The meeting was attended by other prominent Jamaat leaders, including Naib-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher (former MP), Maulana A.N.M. Shamsul Islam (former MP), Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary Generals Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Hamidur Rahman Azad (former MP), and Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, as well as Central Executive Council members Saiful Alam Khan Milon, Secretary of Publicity and Media Division Matiur Rahman Akand, Dhaka Metropolitan South Ameer Nurul Islam Bulbul, and Dhaka Metropolitan North Ameer Md. Selim Uddin.
Also present at the meeting with the Chief Advisor were Advisors Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul, Adilur Rahman Khan, Coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Md. Nahid Islam and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, and Advisor Farida Akhtar.
