In the wake of Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan’s resignation following the anti-discrimination student movement, Justice Ashfaqul Islam has been appointed as the Acting Chief Justice. The Ministry of Law announced this development on Saturday, August 10, around 2:30 PM.

Justice Ashfaqul Islam is currently serving as a judge in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

Additionally, five other justices from the Appellate Division have tendered their resignations. The resigning justices are Justice M. Enayetur Rahim, Justice Abu Zafar Siddique, Justice Jahangir Hossain, Justice Md. Shahinur Islam, and Justice Kashefa Hossain.
