On Wednesday, August 7th, the Barlekha chapter of Jamaat-e-Islami organized an interfaith dialogue with leaders from the Hindu and indigenous communities. The event took place at Safron Restaurant in the town’s municipal area.
During the meeting, speakers addressed concerns over the recent spread of misinformation by certain agents of the previous government, which falsely alleged attacks on Hindu homes and religious sites. They emphasized that these fabricated reports were being used to undermine the accomplishments of promising students and tarnish Bangladesh’s reputation both locally and internationally by recycling images of past incidents. Attendees were urged to remain vigilant against such attempts to spread misinformation.
The dialogue was presided over by Md. Emadul Islam, Amir of the Barlekha chapter and former Upazila Vice Chairman. The session was moderated by Muhammad Kamal Uddin, a member of the Majlis-e-Shura and the working committee of the Upazila Jamaat.
Distinguished speakers at the event included Maulana Islam Uddin, Superintendent of Gramtala Jameya Madrasa; Faisal Ahmad, Naib-e-Amir of Barlekha Upazila Jamaat; Rabbiul Islam Suhel, member of the Majlis-e-Shura and the working committee of the Upazila Jamaat; Professor Abdul Muhaimin; Abdus Samad, former president of the Moulvibazar District Islami Chhatra Shibir; Ranjit Kumar Pal, General Secretary of the Barlekha Upazila Puja Celebration Council; APP Gopal Dutta, Vice President of the Puja Celebration Council; Swapan Chakraborty, Chairman of Daserbazar Union Parishad; Asit Ranjan Das, President of Barlekha Press Club; Prakriti Chowdhury, General Secretary of the Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council; Shailendra Chandra Debnath, Treasurer of the Hajiganj Bazaar Committee; Kennedy Sumer, Headman of the Madhabkunda No. 5 Khasi Punji; Head Teacher Manju Lal Das; and Gitesh Das, along with other leaders of the Sanatan faith.
