Dhaka has strongly condemned the protest by an organization named “Bengal Hindu Awakening” near the walls of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata. The protest included the burning of Bangladesh’s national flag and an effigy of the Chief Adviser of the interim government. Dhaka called on the Indian government to ensure the safety of all Bangladeshi missions in India, including the Kolkata Deputy High Commission, as well as the security of diplomats, their families, and non-diplomatic staff members.

During the protest, demonstrators broke through police barricades and approached the boundary of the Bangladesh mission, creating a tense situation in the area. Although the situation is now reportedly under control due to police intervention, concerns over the security of the mission’s members remain.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over the violent protest. The protest by “Bengal Hindu Awakening” outside the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata was closely observed with serious alarm.

A significant portion of the protesters displayed violent behavior, breaking through police barricades to reach the premises of the Bangladesh mission. During the protest, they set fire to the national flag of Bangladesh and burned an effigy of the Chief Adviser of the interim government.

While the situation has been brought under control, the members of the mission continue to feel insecure. The Bangladesh government strongly condemned the burning of the national flag and the effigy, urging the Indian government to take necessary measures to prevent such condemnable actions in the future. The statement also reiterated Bangladesh’s stance against any form of violence and stressed that the Indian government must ensure the safety of members and staff of all Bangladeshi diplomatic missions across India.
