Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has announced the resignation of the five-member commission he heads.

This announcement came on Thursday, September 5, during a press conference held at the Election Commission building, one month after the fall of the Awami League government following a student-led mass uprising.

The Election Commission was formed during the Awami League’s tenure.

The CEC stated, “Given the changed circumstances, I and the other commissioners have decided to resign. We are handing over our resignation letters to the Election Commission Secretary, who will forward them to the President.”
