A joint operation to recover illegal weapons is set to begin. The operation will be conducted starting next Wednesday, according to Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, the Home Advisor of the interim government.

This information was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday, September 1, by Faisal Ahmed, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The statement mentioned that the joint operation to recover illegal weapons will commence on September 4, 2024.

The Home Advisor noted that the country’s law and order situation is gradually improving, and the operation will be conducted to recover stolen weapons. Additionally, reforms will be made within the police force to strengthen the country’s security system.

Earlier, on Saturday, August 31, Enamul Haque Sagar, the Superintendent of Police in the Media and Public Relations Department of the Police Headquarters, reported that a total of 3,872 different types of weapons, 286,216 rounds of ammunition, 22,201 tear gas shells, and 2,139 sound grenades have recently been looted from across the country.

The Police Headquarters has announced that individuals possessing such weapons and ammunition are instructed to surrender them to the nearest police station by September 3. Failure to comply will result in legal action against them.

It is noteworthy that following the fall of the government due to the anti-discrimination movement, agitated mobs across the country set fire to and attacked various police stations. As a result, many weapons and ammunition stored in these stations and outposts were looted. So far, 3,872 looted weapons and ammunition have been recovered.
