Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, stated that the goal of their party is not to attain power for personal gain, but to bring qualitative changes to society. They envision a society and country where all people, regardless of race, party, or religion, can live in peace without needing to guard their places of worship or homes.
He made these remarks at a gathering and prayer session held today, Monday, at 10:30 am at the Institute grounds in the Jail Mor area of Dinajpur city. The event was organized to commemorate Rudra Sen and other victims of the anti-discrimination student movement and public uprising.
Shafiqur Rahman said, “Anyone born in this country is a fortunate citizen of this nation. If I don’t need to guard my house or mosque, why should my Hindu friends need to guard their houses or temples? We do not want such discrimination.”
He further added that this movement was not for any specific community or group; it was a movement for the people, regardless of race, party, or religion. If anyone tries to use this movement for their own interests, the 180 million people of Bangladesh will resist.
After the event, Shafiqur Rahman provided financial assistance of 200,000 Taka to each of the families of the seven individuals killed in the anti-discrimination student movement. The event was presided over by Dinajpur district Jamaat Ameer Anisur Rahman. Other notable attendees included Central Assistant Secretary General Abdul Halim, Organizational Secretary Momtaz Uddin, former district Ameer Aftab Uddin Molla, and district council member Sirajus Salehin.
Earlier, at around 9:00 am, Shafiqur Rahman arrived by helicopter at the Gor-e-Shahid Boro Maidan in Dinajpur. He then visited the home of Rudra Sen, a student killed in the anti-discrimination student movement in Sylhet, in the Paharpur area of Dinajpur, where he spoke with the family members of the deceased along with other party leaders and workers.
