The government has lifted the ban on the private satellite channel Diganta Television, allowing it to resume broadcasting after a hiatus of 11 years.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting revoked the suspension of the channel on Thursday, August 8, following an appeal from the television’s management.
Diganta TV was previously taken off the air on May 5, 2013, by the Awami League government, citing allegations of spreading hate, rumors, and irresponsible reporting in connection with the Hefazat-e-Islam movement.
Following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and departure from the country, many former employees of Diganta Television gathered at the channel’s office on Tuesday, demanding its reinstatement. This development has now paved the way for the channel to return to the airwaves.
