Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of Sheikh Hasina, has stated that his mother will return to Bangladesh if democracy is restored in the country. He alleged that the current unrest in Bangladesh has been instigated by Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI.

In an interview with the Indian news agency PTI on Thursday, Sajeeb Wazed shared these remarks. Earlier on Monday, facing widespread protests, Sheikh Hasina resigned from her role as Prime Minister and left for India, where she is currently residing.

Sajeeb Wazed affirmed to PTI that Sheikh Hasina will undoubtedly return to Bangladesh, though it remains undecided whether she will re-enter active politics. He stressed that the family of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has always stood by the people of Bangladesh and will continue to support the Awami League during this challenging period.

Expressing his gratitude to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his administration, Sajeeb Wazed thanked them for ensuring Sheikh Hasina’s safety. He also urged India to assist in building international public opinion in favor of restoring democracy in Bangladesh.

He noted, “While it’s true that I had previously stated she would not return to Bangladesh, the situation has evolved significantly following the recent violent attacks on our party leaders and members. We will take every necessary step to protect our people. We will not abandon them.”

During the telephone interview with PTI, Sajeeb Wazed emphasized, “The Awami League is the largest and oldest political party in Bangladesh. We cannot distance ourselves from our people. If democracy is reinstated, she (Sheikh Hasina) will undoubtedly return to Bangladesh.”

When questioned about whether he or his sister, Saima Wazed, would enter politics, Sajeeb Wazed responded, “I cannot provide a definitive answer to that question at this time. However, I am committed to doing whatever is necessary to save Bangladesh and protect the Awami League. The Mujib family will not abandon the party in difficult times.”

Sajeeb Wazed also accused Pakistan of being responsible for the current turmoil in Bangladesh, stating, “Based on circumstantial evidence, I suspect the involvement of Pakistan’s ISI. The attacks and protests appear highly coordinated and well-planned, with an attempt to further inflame the situation through social media. Despite the government’s efforts to control the situation, there was a continuous attempt to escalate tensions.”

Regarding potential involvement from U.S. intelligence agencies like the CIA in the recent protests, Sajeeb Wazed mentioned that he did not possess concrete evidence but did not rule out the possibility. He, however, dismissed any involvement from China.
